Your journey begins with the New Executive Induction Forum hosted by APEX in partnership with the Canada School of Public Service (CSPS). This exclusive event is free of charge and kicks off a series of cohort-based sessions on leading as a new executive.

Explore the transition from senior manager to executive. You will hear from an experienced executive on their career path, highlights and transition to the executive cadre. Registrants will collaborate and work in groups during this session.

Retired Executive

Karen Ellis is an engaging and inclusive senior leader with extensive public sector experience across 14 organizations, known for driving systems change, strengthening culture, and delivering results. She recently retired as Ontario’s Deputy Minister of Correctional Services and also served as Public Service Commissioner, providing strategic direction on HR and executive development. Before joining the OPS, she led a consulting practice focused on change leadership and executive advisory services. She previously had a 20-year federal career where she held multiple Assistant Deputy Minister roles and earned a reputation for strategic execution and strong people leadership.

Contextualizing the role of Executives within the current environment and providing personal insights into their experience as an Executive.

Prior to her current appointment, Ms. Mondou served as Deputy Minister of Canadian Heritage for more than four years, where she helped to foster Canada’s rich cultural and heritage sectors. She also undertook the critical role of Deputy Minister for the COVID-19 Response (Communications) at the Privy Council Office, navigating a particularly challenging period. Throughout her career, she has also contributed significantly to areas such as democratic reform, intergovernmental affairs, and machinery of government.
